Biography
Martina has worked on over 15 films, multiple music videos and dozens of national commercials as a Production Designer. The Chameleon and Columbus Circle are both having their theatrical releases in 2011. The film “Grace,” which she designed for Director Paul Solet was an offical slection for Sundance, last year.
Born in Cork, Ireland, Martina moved to Connecticut to attend college, studying Literature and Fine Art Painting. From there she moved to New York and studied design at FIT. After working in the fashion industry in New York, she moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career in film. She started in the Wardrobe department, but very quickly moved into the Art Department, working her way up, doing everything from Art Dept PA to Lead Scenic where she painted very elaborate murals and backdrops for films and commercials. This experience gave Martina a great understanding and respect for everyone’s role and the time and effort it takes for each aspect of every job to be completed in a professional and timely fashion.
When she is not working as a Production Designer, Martina spends her time working on her other love which is Fine Art Painting. She had a sold out show in Cork, Ireland in 2005 and is preparing for a show in Los Angeles in the Fall of 2011. She is represented in the US by DCA Fine Art in Santa Monica.
“Many of the techniques developed through painting are also applied to my work in film. I consider the type of work I do on film to be three-dimensional painting. I love telling a story through paint and objects. One of my goals on a film is to support and suprise the director and actors, helping them on their journey in portraying a character.
I have a great love and appreciation for the crew I work with and always promote an emotional connection with the material and the joy of what we do."
As a Production Designer, Martina has worked all over the US and works as a local not only in Los Angeles, but also in New York and San Francisco. She has worked on films in Budapest, Thailand, Singapore and Canada.
Martina has lectured at Nanyang Technological University Singapore, New York Film School and UCLA.
